How to do Holiday eye makeup in Five minutes: A Tutorial

Glit it to Bling it!!!

Hi Beautiful!!!
Wishing all of you a joyful holiday season. Many of you out there might be like me who love to dress up, make up but has very little time to do that! The reason could be various, for me obviously it's my 2 and half year old. It is not that I'm always very busy with her; it's just because I can not keep my makeup in my reach anymore! She can reach wherever it is convenient for me to keep them for using at the right time!

Anyway, I knew, it's reality now! Therefore figured out this five minutes eye makeup mostly using my ring-finger, because my makeup brushes are her second most favorite toy to play after nail-polishes.

And, when you are in hurry, let gold and glitter do it for you. Let it sparkle, let it be your day! Not to mention, this could be the perfect eye makeup for your holiday party!

Must know Basics about Sunscreen

Hi loves!

It is now summer full on, so like many of you, we have been going to places, mostly for day tours! And Yes! I have something to share with all of you - I have experienced the benefits of summer skin care that I have read and researched about from many reliable literature.

Anyway, I have a long list of topics to do! I am trying to finish and upload them ASAP.

That brings us to today's topic! Many of my friends and followers of my blog asked me on several occasions questions related to summer skin care and the use of sunscreen. I have been telling them facts regarding sun protection and now I think this is high time to discuss and share the topic here! Hope this post will be of help and will motivate you to wear sunscreen if you are not convinced yet!

What is it?

We all know what it is very well. Still let us start with the basic. If you type "Sunscreen" on google search, the definition from wikipedia will pop up first. The definition is fairly easy to understand, so copying right under here:

Sunscreen (also commonly known as sunblock, sun screen, sunburn cream, sun cream or block out and sometimes unhelpfully called suntan lotion) is a lotion, spray, gel or other topical product that absorbs or reflects some of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation on the skin exposed to sunlight and thus helps protect against sunburn.

Why and When should use it?
These are interesting questions. Even just before auripra's birth, I used to apply it only during hot summer days and only used to apply once a day! I was so wrong! After I brunt myself during our Cancun tour, from face to toe (even i had blisters on places), i got really scared and did some research myself. I came to know some interesting facts:

We use it to resist bad effects of Ultraviolet rays (UVA and UVB) from sun on our skin health. So, it is important to check whether it is a broad spectrum (aka protects skin from both UV rays) when buying. Also, if you are in a humid area, like India, it is better to use a water resistant type.

We do not use it to protect us from getting tanned. More often we get an even tanning when using a sunscreen, as sometimes they do carry tanning powder. As in India, we do not want to get tanned, we must check and skip the ones which has tanning powder in it.

Even if you are going out in the sun for as little as 20 minutes, you must apply it.

Even on a cloudy day 80 percent of the sun's ultraviolet rays pass through the clouds. So, you must apply it on a cloudy day. Water, sand and snow are even worse! They reflect UV rays, so if you are going into water, or around sand of snow, you must apply it and every 1.5-2 hours reapply it. See the reapplication time of particular sunscreen you are using.

Harmful Ultraviolet rays can not only cause cancer, it also helps pre-mature aging! So use sunscreen to protect yourself from pre-mature aging too.

Lips get sunburned too, so apply a lip balm that contains sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher.

Apply 30 minutes BEFORE going outdoors. Pay particular attention to your face, ears, hands and arm especially those areas you would wear your highlighter because those are the places normally hit by sunlight more often. Use a spray sunscreen for an even application thought out your body, especially for those tough to reach places.

Sun Protection Factor (SPF): is higher number really better?

There is not much if at all, difference between working abilities of, say for example, SPF 35 and SPF 200. According to American Melanoma (the prevalent type of skin cancer) Foundation, "SPF protection does not increase proportionally with an increased SPF number. While an SPF of 2 will absorb 50% of ultraviolet radiation, an SPF of 15 absorbs 93% and an SPF of 34 absorbs 97%." Therefore, I would say, as long as you are using something in between SPF30+ to SPF50+ and applying and reapplying it regularly, You are GOOD!

Why sometimes you feel burning sensation/ irritation after applying sunscreen?

Some of my friends avoid using sunscreen altogether, because they always feel burning sensation or irritation or worse rash. If you are one of them, i would say read through the following.

Yes, there are some active-ingredients (read chemicals)l present in sunscreen that can cause possible skin irritation or allergy, hormone disruption and skin damage that occurs when sunlight acts on sunscreen chemicals. Look for these words: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate etc. Avoid one that contain these. May be only one chemical is causing sensitivity with your skin! I am afraid to say, but, testing out different products is the only way to go! Also, avoid Sunscreen that contain Vitamin A or it's derivative called Retinyl palmitate, this may speed skin cancer.

Believe me, The irritation after using sunscreen is far better than suffering from sunburn! You don't wanna know how sunburn feels and you are listening it from a first-hand experienced person.

How do I apply it?

I personally use and love Aveeno face sunscreen (click here) or auripra's Baby Sunscreen from Neutrogena (click here) for face. And, for full body, I use CVS kids sunscreen (click here).

I normally, after washing my face with cleanser, moisturize it and wait good 15-20 minutes to help it absorb totally into my skin! Next, I apply sunscreen. Yes, I apply comparatively more on my T-zone of my face!

Applying sunscreen on Auripra is a daily fight! Please do share your tips, if you have any!

Hope you enjoy reading this (Looong) post as much as I enjoyed writing it! If you wanna see a post on any particular aspect of summer skin care, please let me know. You can leave a comment here or on thedocndiva facebook page.

Top 5 Tips to Deal with Toddler Tantrum Inside a Movie Theatre

Hello Beauties!!!

It is a mommy time today. Staying away from family with your kid(s) is a real tough job. I am sure most of you (with experience) will agree with me, it is even tougher to keep their calm when they are out of their usual routine or surroundings. Last week, during a get together with friends, Auripra probably cried the most in a day, in her lifetime. It was very embarrassing. She is normally a happy kid; however, you never know when it goes against them and they start creating scene.

It was literally more than 2.5 years since we went to watch a movie in a theatre. I remember, I was around 7 month pregnant when we last watched a movie on big screen. Ever since, Auripra was born,
we have been thinking about different strategies regarding managing her inside the dark room but were never be able to bold enough taking the risk. Finally last week, even after seeing the extreme outburst only few days ago, we said "enough is enough, we have to try something new."

We did everything according to whatever we were thinking for last two years and it was a SUCCESS.

Stacking Jewelry, Fashion Trends 2013: How to Wear it

Hello my Beautiful Buddies!

Happy Month of June!!! Can't believe it's already half-way through 2013! In another couple of weeks we will be done with spring! Today I am going to light up another very popular fashion trend in summer 2013: Stacking Jewelry.

When it comes to stack jewelry, we indian do always rock it with our traditional attire. Be it a salwar or a kurti for day-to-day fashion or a super gorgeous saree or a dazzling lehenga choli for our wedding day! We just love to mix-n-match multiple necklaces, bangles, rings, earrings (though wearing 'more than one earrings' is much popular in western world too). Anyway, this year the trend in discussion is very hot all over the globe. I am going to share few pictures on "how to incorporate jewelry staking in day-to-day fashion". Hope these pictures will inspire all of us and we will be able to mix-n-match our old jewelries to give them a total new look!!!

Chevron and Neutrals: Spring Outfit for Lunch with Friends

So! We were going out for a lunch with friend and family. 'The friend' was very close buddy of the 'doc' during his med school days; however, after they left med school, never had a chance to meet again. Our plan was to go for a Chinese dim sum and after eating directly to Please Touch Museum, Philadelphia for kids. She also has a two year old, his name is Aryan (isn't that a very cute name?). Yes! Auripra made a new friend.

Although, we all were going to the museum, doc had to go to hospital for something. I needed to keep that in mind while dressing for this outing. I knew, I would be running after Auripra all afternoon at the museum. I dressed myself in a very comfy outfit, also wanted to keep it trendy. Therefore, the white Bermuda shorts and chevron prints. Bermuda shorts and chevron prints are totally in trend this season. Actually, the earrings I wore also had chevron patterns on them. Products I used for makeup were sunscreen, mascara, lip-balm. I actually used sunscreen (a must during day time all year) on all over exposed skin.

Click here to know what are the other styles that are in trend this spring/summer. Click here to see how I wore this same top as a fall outfit. Isn’t it great to re-wear a top totally different ways again and again? And, Don't worry about my wedge, I surely changed back into a sneaker before entering the museum!

Floral Print Skirt: Wearing Same Skirt Two ways

Floral print is always hit for spring and summer! You can wear it as a dress, as a blazer, as skinny trouser, as a scarf or as i am wearing as a skirt. I bought this skirt two years ago when Auripra was only a few months old. Could not wear it in 2011 summer though, because I had my preggy fat all over summer that year. First time, I wore the skirt last summer and went to Longwood Gardens for a day out with my mother before she went back to India on 29th April, 2012. Again last weekend I wore this for a casual family out with Auripra and her dad to Penn's Landing. Yes! It has been a year before I wear it again.

Spring Inspired nail-art: A step by step tutorial

Spring Inspired # 2

Ok! No beating around the bush, let's jump directly into the topic. Yes! we are gonna be discussing the steps of the summery floral nail that I did last week. Although it is a little bit time consuming, this is quiet easy to do. It took me around an hour to do both the hands. Not to mention, being right handed it is always more difficult and more time consuming to do the right hand by the left one.

Best Homemade Hair Remedy for summer: Egg Yogurt Olive-Oil

Although, It still sometimes feels like 30F (-1°C) in Philadelphia, we know for sure now, summer is around the corner. We, in winter dominating areas, long for summer; whereas, in India, it is actually scary when we think about summer! People in tropical region actually wait for winter so dearly! Obviously, I used to do the same when I was in India.

Whether you long for summer or not, everywhere, summer means dehydration, sun-burn, more sweat,  heat rash etc. Therefore, we need to take even more care of our health, our skin and of course, our hair during this season. That is why, I am doing this post today. This is my favorite home-made hair-pack for summer.

It is an Egg-yogurt and olive oil pack. Egg can moisturize and strengthen our hair. Yogurt can condition and cleanse our hair. Olive oil also works as moisturizer and conditioner. Well, yes, if you want, yon can use this during winter as well! But, I normally use this more often during summer.

How to: Nail-art for Easter and Holi Festivities

Happy Belated Holi and Happy Easter Everyone

When you think about spring, what exactly do you think about? I think about colors, flowers and colorful festivals. In India, we celebrate Holi, the festival of color during spring. Here in USA, Easter is celebrated around the same time. The tradition for Easter is making cute-colorful eggs, whereas Holi is all about bright-vibrant color!

This year, these festivals happened to be only three days apart! Holi was on last Wednesday, March 27th and Easter is on coming Sunday, March 31st. Therefore, I did my nails inspired by colors, vibrance, patterns, dots, festivals. And, of course, I am going to share how to do it here...

7 Best ways to Lose your Pregnancy Weight

Happy Birthday Sweetheart!

Friends! today is a very special day of our life. It is Auripra's second birthday! It seems these (almost) three years, from the day we got our pregnancy test result positive till today, flew super fast! New baby, for the first time parent, is always a challenge! Especially, when they are staying far away from family. Hence, it was tough for us with her, at least for first six weeks, before my mom arrived to rescue us.

After my mom came, I started eating so much that instead of losing pregnancy weight I started gaining more... I still remember when Auripra was around 8 weeks old, somebody asked me whether I was pregnant at the point! It was embarrassing, however, it was kind of okay when I said I have a two month old.

I am always petite in stature. My pre-pregnancy weight was 108Lb and just before Auripra was born I was 135Lb. Of course, I lost some after she was born! After my mom came, I was again around 130Lb or so. I should mention here Auripra was exclusively on breast-feeding until she was 6 months old and after that she used to have one solid feeding everyday, otherwise, I was still breast-feeding her until she was 9 months, that is when I stopped breast-feeding her altogether.
