Festive Fashion

Durga pooja (worshiping of mother Durga, a Hindu mythological devi and diva) is the biggest festival of Hindu-Bengalies and it was celebrated few weeks ago. In Kolkata, India it is celebrated extravagantly every year around this time. I am "spiritual but NOT religious" and for me, it's a festival of color, friendship, good food and of course, fashion! Every year during this time I just feel so home-sick and miss my friends & family back home. This year we went to a Hindu temple, Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Nj to celebrate and of-course, I wore a saree. Here are few pictures of that day for you guys.

It might seem very excessive to some - the amount of hard work and funds that goes into these magical decorations, making of idols, exuberant light and sound shows. However, I can assure you, none of you have experienced something quite like it unless you have been to Kolkata during this time. I find it very unfortunate that all these huge mementos of innovative and unique designs and artistic masterpieces are there to stay for only 4-5 days each year. It is needless to say the arrangements take weeks to months. Religious or not, if you fancy overdose of innovative art- trendy Indian fashion- great foods and endless entertainment, I would highly recommend visiting Kolkata, India during Durga Pooja.

I hope you enjoyed these pictures. Please share pictures of your special festivities with us.
All the best to all of us.
XOXO
